Matt and I spent this past weekend at his family reunion in Stone Mountain, Georgia. And, like we always do when traveling, we sought out a local bookstore to make sure we didn’t leave any allowed weight in our checked bags unused.
Enter: Book Nook in Decatur, Georgia.
The shelves were pretty well organized for a used bookstore… They had a good selection of newer fiction titles… There was a Golden Retriever shopping with her owner while we were there, and the front desk was stocked with dog treats…
Some of their books (including one I bought) were in kind of rough condition. The only employee we encountered wasn’t especially polite (aside from giving that dog a treat…) AND their prices weren’t great for used books. (Matt found a pristine hardback book for $8, which was all fine and good, but my grubby paperback copy of Oxygen by Carol Cassella was $9.)
Leaving there was the first time I’ve ever left a book store with buyer’s remorse… (And that was before I got home and realized I already owned a copy of Oxygen…)
One good thing to come from our visit there, though… I remembered the title of the book I’d been thinking about/looking for for years – the one I’d read in grade school with a picture of a cheerleader on the cover! I walked into the young adult section, thinking maybe, MAYBE that book might pop out at me, and as soon as my eyes started scanning left to right, I remembered the title – Nothing to Cheer About!
Book Nook didn’t have it, but Amazon does – a brand new copy for the low, low price of $128.14 or a used one starting at $1.99. (Amazon also has nice, clean copies of Oxygen for only slightly more money than I paid for my sticky one…)
